Sustainable energy for BHS in Slovakia: ERDF subsidizes photovoltaic system

January 8, 2024
BHS-Sonthofen (Slovakia) s.r.o. receives indirect subsidies from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for a large photovoltaic system. The photovoltaic system has been in operation since December 2023 and will reach its full capacity of 270 kilowatts (kW) at the end of January.

Due to fluctuating energy prices and to improve environmental protection, the Slovakian subsidiary of BHS-Sonthofen has decided to install a photovoltaic system. The aim is to increase electricity generation for the plant's own consumption from renewable energy sources. The system was put into operation on December 19, 2023. The installed capacity will save around 30 to 40 percent of the previous electricity costs.

The European Regional Development Fund is subsidizing the plant with just over 82,000 euros. Payment is made via the Slovakian state energy agency (The Slovak Innovation and Energy Agency - SIEA).

BHS-Sonthofen has been manufacturing machine components for the plants in Germany at the Slovakian site in Hansika near Prešov since 2021. Around 80 people are now employed in Slovakia.
