Turning waste into resources

Waste materials are valuable as they contain highly sought-after resources. The focus of our experience lies in the fields of metal recovery, domestic & industrial waste, refuse-derived fuels, gypsum board and disposal as well as biomass applications. Our solutions shred and crush the feed material to the desired size, and they pelletize or isolate material composites. This provides the ideal basis for subsequent separation and sorting processes.

From coarse to fine – from a single source

A recycling plant comprises many stages, each with different requirements – from very rough to highly refined processing. With our broad technology portfolio and extensive market and process know-how, we have the right tool for each production step. We also offer best-of-breed technology for particularly voluminous or bulky materials that need to be handled early on in the processing chain.

Recycling turnkey line for e-scrap in France: Shredding for value

June 2024
Most people use electronic devices without giving much thought to the end of their lives. Envie, a French specialist in the recycling of electrical and electronic scrap, focuses on safety and sustainability. To do so, the company has two technological aces up its sleeve: a primary shredder (VSR) and a Rotorshredder (RS) from BHS-Sonthofen.

Two biogrinders for an organic waste plant in China

November 2022
In China, BHS-Sonthofen is already widely known as a reliable partner for recycling technology. Good word of mouth convinced the operator of a waste recycling plant in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province in northwest China to order two biogrinders for the recycling of kitchen waste. The treated organic material mainly consists of the food waste from homes and restaurants. Some adjustments to meet the specific requirements of the project led to an improved efficiency of the BHS technology with increased biogas production and better process stability.

Long-Life service contract for high machine availability at recycling company in Austria

April 2022
Wear parts that aren’t made the manufacturer of a machine often promise to be a more cost-effective alternative to the original spare parts. However, they also pose risks to a continuous production process in the long run. Frequently, these spare parts are inferior to the original – not only in terms of quality, but also in terms of service, maintenance and availability. METRAN Rohstoff-Aufbereitungs GmbH therefore opted for a BHS LONG-LIFE service contract for its two rotor impact mills of type RPMV 1113 in 2022.

Turning waste into energy with the BHS universal shredder in Romania

March 2022
Sustainable use of residual materials has become economically and ecologically indispensable for many industrial processes. In Romania, German-based concrete producer Heidelberg Cement therefore looked for fuels derived from household waste. The company turned to local waste recycler Pacos, where a universal shredder (type NGU) from BHS-Sonthofen has recently been installed to produce RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel)- fractions. The implementation was quick and straightforward – due to the full-service support of BHS-Sonthofen and its local partner CTE Solution.

Crushed it: Transforming waste into energy with the BHS Biogrinder

February 2022

BHS technology used for the innovative HALOSEP recycling process

February 2022
The EU wants at least 50 percent of household waste to be recycled and the rest to be used as a source of energy in waste incineration plants. However, waste incineration produces ash – a hazardous waste contaminated with salts and heavy metals that must be disposed of in special landfills, which involves long transport routes and high costs. The Danish power plant operator Vestforbraending uses the HALOSEP technology developed and patented by the Swedish group Stena Recycling, a process solution that makes it possible to dispose of ash as normal waste. In this project funded by the European Union, technology from BHS-Sonthofen is used for two steps at once.

An environmentally friendly alternative to peat: The Biogrinder efficiently processes compost

February 2021
The Biogrinder from BHS-Sonthofen is successfully used by a cooperative in northern Germany for the production of an alternative to peat. A mobile plant with a control system from BHS Control Systems was implemented. The plant efficiently shreds surpluses of compost material and produces a substance that is suitable for use as an environmentally friendly alternative to peat. For example, the product is added to the production of potting soil to reduce the amount of peat contained in it.

It’s all about the purity: high-grade aluminum concentrate from incinerator bottom ash

February 2021
French waste recycling company Norval has been using an impact mill (PM) from BHS-Sonthofen for aluminum processing in the final process step since June 2019. The sturdy machine frees the pre-sorted aluminum fraction from the waste incineration system from undesired adhesions, thus reliably ensuring that a high-grade aluminum concentrate is obtained.

Efficient recycling of electrical waste thanks to pre-shredder

October 2020
Recycling of electronical waste often makes pre-shredding necessary - but batteries and capacitors must not be damaged in the process. At the French Rousset facility near Marseilles, Triade Électronique, a subsidiary of Veolia, operates a recycling plant for electrical and electronic scrap. A customized pre-shredder from BHS-Sonthofen is used to facilitate efficient shredding. The built-in counter-crossbeam simplifies manual sorting and thus increases the share of saleable recycling materials.

Recycling company in the UK relies on plant technology from BHS to process ASR fractions, electronic scrap and meatballs

May 2020
A British company commissioned a recycling plant that was planned and implemented by BHS. The plant is designed to handle a variety of materials such as automotive shredder residue (ASR) fractions, electronic scrap and so-called “meatballs” (electric motors and motor armatures). The process developed together with the company is based on a profitability analysis and ensures marketable end products.

Two shredders for an SMP plant in China

January 2020
BHS-Sonthofen has delivered recycling technology for an SMP plant in Wuxi City of Jiangsu province, China. Toxic industry waste is usually disposed together with the packaging – for example steel drums or big bags. Roten, the Chinese company responsible for building the recycling plant, asked for solutions for the first step of the recycling process, which is the shredding of waste materials delivered in big bags. The customer's main requirement was high machine availability. BHS-Sonthofen opted for a two-stage shredding process with shearing shredder VR 1215 (hydraulic drive) and VR 0912 (electrical drive).
