Solution

Two sets of biogrinders specifically adjusted to the customer’s needs, each with a throughput of about 8-12 tph.

In China, BHS-Sonthofen is already widely known as a reliable partner for recycling technology. Good word of mouth convinced the operator of a waste recycling plant in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province in northwest China to order two biogrinders for the recycling of kitchen waste. The treated organic material mainly consists of the food waste from homes and restaurants. Some adjustments to meet the specific requirements of the project led to an improved efficiency of the BHS technology with increased biogas production and better process stability.

No two waste products are the same: For this Chinese customer, the main material is unprocessed food from kitchens and restaurants – without much added oil, but with a high water content. When BHS received an order from the waste recycling plant operator in Xi'an (Shaanxi Province) to supply two biogrinders, the engineers from Sonthofen immediately started to modify the standard machine to meet the customer's requirements. The task at hand was to make the input waste fibrous and pasty, which is a prerequisite for the subsequent fermentation process.

To get the best results and a seamless process with such a heterogenous and wet raw material, BHS placed special emphasis on the sealing of the machine. Among other features were the installation of Hardox material hammers to crush and defiber the waste efficiently, and variable stator bars (the mating components for rotary hammers) to allow the adjustment of the output flexibly. These changes are in line with the ambitious customer expectations for high-class engineering from BHS: The customer chose the German company because of the steady operation of their biogrinders as well as the highly fibrous and pasty status of the output.

After the final inspection in the BHS factory in China, the biogrinders were loaded on a truck and transported to Xi’an, Shaanxi Province. Commissioning followed in October 2022, after completion of the installation and induction of the plant. With a capacity of about 500 tons per day, the potential of biogas production increased. The result is a biogas plant that operates more efficiently and reliably.
