Precast concrete

Top quality, down to every single component

Superior homogeneity of precast concrete

As formulations are getting increasingly complex, the twin-shaft batch mixer (DKX) is becoming an ever more popular tool for the production of concrete precast parts. Whether it’s curb edgings, designer garden benches, channel components, tunnel or bridge components, columns or masts: Precast concrete elements are ubiquitous. During production, a consistently high degree of homogeneity of the mixture is required batch after batch, because the finished component needs to serve its function perfectly while satisfying the desired aesthetic preferences.

Benefits at a glance:

  • Proven und forward-looking machine technology
  • High degree of homogeneity in a short time
  • Excellent liberation of binder and additives
  • Uniform distribution of fibers, for example
  • High system availability and low operating costs

Precast concrete for the Grand Mosque of Algiers (Djamaa el Djazaïr)

A mixing plant with BHS twin-shaft batch mixers proved itself in a major project completed by Europoles GmbH & Co. KG that involved the production of high-strength concrete. Europoles delivered 618 supports made from white, high-strength spun concrete for the third largest mosque in the world. The pole manufacturer, based in Neumarkt, Germany, produced the concrete for the columns, which are up to 34 meters high and weigh up to 34 metric tons, with twin-shaft batch mixers from BHS-Sonthofen’s DKX range. For this purpose, the existing BHS-Sonthofen mixing plant was modified and upgraded.

Perfect mixing action for each batch and formulation

The mixing tools ensure intensive relative movements in the entire mixer interior as well as perfect mixing:

  • Consistently homogeneous mixing result, even for partial batches starting with 10% of the filling capacity.
  • Sensitive particles in the mixture remain undamaged
  • Option: Flexible drive configuration for demanding tasks
  • Option: Smooth mixing mechanism minimizes maintenance
  • Option: Twin mixing mechanism increases relative movements
  • Option: Two independent discharge flaps

Sophisticated formulations for concrete blocks, face concrete, colored concrete, high-performance concrete (incl. UHFB) or self-compacting concretes (SCC) can be produced with ease. Lastly, the system delivers low wear and low energy consumption.

National Museum of China displays sample of RCC mixed with BHS technology

February 2024
It is the largest sample of Roller-Compacted Concrete (RCC) in the world! And it is the result of a big project. The Dagu Hydro Dam is located 3,700 meters above sea level, making it the most elevated site ever for employing BHS twin-shaft batch mixers. A core sample of the dam was extracted in 2021. Due of its size and excellent quality, the National Museum of China chose to include it in its collection for public display in 2023.

Ten BHS mixers for China's high-profile Pinglu Canal project

January 2024
China is a country of superlatives, not least in terms of population: With more than a billion people and huge agricultural areas, securing a continuous supply of water for the nation has become paramount. Reservoirs and dams help store water and regulate its distribution, especially in times of drought or water rationing. Over the past few decades, China has therefore embarked on a series of major construction projects. One of the currently most important projects is the Pinglu Canal Project, for which BHS-Sonthofen has supplied eight large BHS twin-shaft batch mixers of type DKX 7.00 and two additional DKX 4.00.
