Precast concrete

Top quality, down to every single component

Superior homogeneity of precast concrete

As formulations are getting increasingly complex, the twin-shaft batch mixer (DKX) is becoming an ever more popular tool for the production of concrete precast parts. Whether it’s curb edgings, designer garden benches, channel components, tunnel or bridge components, columns or masts: Precast concrete elements are ubiquitous. During production, a consistently high degree of homogeneity of the mixture is required batch after batch, because the finished component needs to serve its function perfectly while satisfying the desired aesthetic preferences.

Benefits at a glance:

  • Proven und forward-looking machine technology
  • High degree of homogeneity in a short time
  • Excellent liberation of binder and additives
  • Uniform distribution of fibers, for example
  • High system availability and low operating costs

Precast concrete for the Grand Mosque of Algiers (Djamaa el Djazaïr)

A mixing plant with BHS twin-shaft batch mixers proved itself in a major project completed by Europoles GmbH & Co. KG that involved the production of high-strength concrete. Europoles delivered 618 supports made from white, high-strength spun concrete for the third largest mosque in the world. The pole manufacturer, based in Neumarkt, Germany, produced the concrete for the columns, which are up to 34 meters high and weigh up to 34 metric tons, with twin-shaft batch mixers from BHS-Sonthofen’s DKX range. For this purpose, the existing BHS-Sonthofen mixing plant was modified and upgraded.

Perfect mixing action for each batch and formulation

The mixing tools ensure intensive relative movements in the entire mixer interior as well as perfect mixing:

  • Consistently homogeneous mixing result, even for partial batches starting with 10% of the filling capacity.
  • Sensitive particles in the mixture remain undamaged
  • Option: Flexible drive configuration for demanding tasks
  • Option: Smooth mixing mechanism minimizes maintenance
  • Option: Twin mixing mechanism increases relative movements
  • Option: Two independent discharge flaps

Sophisticated formulations for concrete blocks, face concrete, colored concrete, high-performance concrete (incl. UHFB) or self-compacting concretes (SCC) can be produced with ease. Lastly, the system delivers low wear and low energy consumption.

Success stories

Concrete for Europe's biggest wind farm

June 2020
Mixing concrete for more than 1100 windmills of Europe’s biggest wind farm is no small task. Which is why Tecwill Oy, a Finnish expert for concrete batching plants, puts his trust in a twin-shaft batch mixer from BHS-Sonthofen. The mixer produces four cubic meters of fiber concrete per batch and allows for casting up to three windmill bases per day. Tecwill and his customer particularly praise the mixer for its reliability and the efficiency of the time- and cost-saving mixing principle.

The right mix for the Aberdeen port expansion

April 2020
Dragados UK & Ireland uses mixing technology from BHS-Sonthofen to produce the concrete required for the expansion of the Aberdeen harbor. A total of 9,000 accropods will be produced with the concrete and used in the outer protective walls for the northern and southern breakwaters. Industrias Leblan supplied a mixing plant that includes a BHS twin-shaft batch mixer.

Twin-shaft batch mixer used for concrete pipe manufacturing in Indonesia

January 2019
Twin-shaft batch mixers from BHS-Sonthofen feature special drive technology that can impressively handle demanding tasks. BHS supplied these types of mixers for a second time to a player in Indonesia’s precast concrete industry; two machines were sent to the company PT Calvary Abadi. This clearly demonstrates that twin-shaft batch mixers are suitable for use with precast concrete, contrary to popular opinion.

Mixing plant modernization at Betonwerk Schumann in Seelingstädt (Thuringia, Germany)

July 2015
Betonwerk Schumann is located in Seelingstädt, which sits between Gera und Zwickau in Thuringia, Germany, and manufactures precast concrete such as ceilings, pillars, stairs, and other special components built to customer specifications. It also manufactures ready-mixed concrete, which the company supplies using its ready-mixed concrete mixers. Customers also collect small volumes from the mixing plant themselves.
