Efficiently Separating Gypsum and Paper: Processing Under Realistic Conditions

When recycling drywall, it’s not just the quality of the recovered gypsum that matters. The clean separation of paper and gypsum is also a key challenge. This is because material from demolition is anything but homogeneous: paper, cardboard, wallpaper scraps, metals, and other contaminants must be reliably separated from the gypsum. To achieve this, BHS combines various shredding, sorting, and grading methods into a process tailored to the specific material.

But which process parameters deliver the best results for a specific material?

That can be tested.

In our 1,800 m² Test Center, we conduct customized customer trials using production-scale equipment. We test, analyze, and document the results, and use them to develop suitable process solutions in collaboration with our customers.

To this end, customers can have their own material tested by us. For gypsum-coated paper from demolition waste, for example, the focus may be on the following objectives:

Recycle the paper as gently as possible
Precisely adjust the fiber size
Reduce gypsum losses

Depending on the material and the desired result, different shredding and separation processes can be investigated and combined with one another.

In this way, a theoretical process idea is transformed into a solid foundation for further plant and process planning.
