When building a new port or expanding an existing one, excavation work is performed to achieve the necessary water depth. The dredged material is often contaminated with harmful substances which require decontamination:
As integrated systems with a vacuum and condensation module as well as a product feed and discharge unit, the horizontal and vertical evaporators manufactured by our subsidiary AVA are an excellent choice when it comes to separating out hazardous materials. Our systems achieve the desired results even with fine-grained and sandy soils, which cannot be easily obtained using traditional soil washing techniques.
The evaporators from our subsidiary AVA are compact and mobile, and they are also available as container systems. This means that they can be operated directly on site at the port during dredging, doing away with the need to ship the dredged material long distances for cleaning. The hazardous materials are thermally separated from the solids in a closed – and thus energy-efficient – integrated system. Once the material has been fed in, the evaporator gradually heats it up. Water and hazardous substances are vaporized, filtered and condensed in the condensation module. This helps keep emissions to a minimum. The dredged spoils, once decontaminated, can be used as construction material or hauled away to another site.
Based on your requirements, the evaporator from our subsidiary AVA can also be equipped to perform multi-stage condensation, condensate separation and gas scrubbing. Temperatures of up to 650 °C are possible, thus allowing long-chain hydrocarbons up to C40 to also be separated. Heating can be generated using electricity or through contact with steam or thermal oil. We design and deliver the solution that best meets your needs.
